In the YMCA of West San Gabriel Valley aquatic/swimming programs, both youth and adults learn to be safe around water. As they progress, they feel the sense of accomplishment that comes with learning something new. Swimming is a lifelong skill that can help a person stay healthy. Our YMCA aquatic programs include parent/child classes, preschool/youth/adult classes, lap swim, and recreational swim.

Our 6 lane, 25 yard indoor pool is heated daily to 82-84 degrees F°. All lifeguards are Red Cross trained and certified. They are also trained and certified in Child Abuse Prevention, and receive training in Social-Emotional and Mental Health Awareness. All swimmers receive a swim assessment when they enter the pool. Non-swimmers will be required to wear a life vest provided by the YMCA. All swimmers must wear a swim cap, available at the front desk for purchase.

Safety Around Water

Teaching children how to be safe around water is not a luxury; it is a necessity. The YMCA’s Safety Around Water program can help you make sure they learn essential water safety skills, which can open up a world of possibilities for them to satisfy their curiosity safely.

What Is Safety Around Water?

Through learning how to perform a sequenced set of skills over a period of lessons, the risk of drowning is reduced, giving your child confidence in and around water. These essential skills are integrated into our swim lessons.

Teach kids to swim. It can mean the difference between a close call and a call to 911
